Job Description
Hensard Group is actively seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Welder with extensive experience in metal work and fabrication to join our dedicated project team in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. This pivotal role involves executing precise welding and fabrication tasks on various structural, pipeline, and mechanical components for our diverse portfolio of engineering projects. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring all work strictly adheres to engineering specifications, industry-leading quality standards, and rigorous safety protocols. We are looking for an individual with comprehensive knowledge of different welding processes, including SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, and FCAW, and a proven ability to accurately read and interpret complex blueprints and technical drawings. Key Responsibilities
- Perform advanced welding processes, including Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG), and Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) on diverse materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy steels.
- Accurately read, interpret, and work from detailed engineering blueprints, welding symbols, technical specifications, and fabrication drawings to ensure precise execution of all tasks.
- Prepare metal components by cutting, grinding, bevelling, and cleaning surfaces to achieve optimal fit-up and secure joints prior to welding.
- Operate and maintain a variety of welding equipment, power tools, and hand tools safely and efficiently, performing routine checks and minor maintenance as required.
- Conduct thorough visual inspections of finished welds to identify and rectify any defects such as cracks, porosity, undercut, or incomplete fusion, ensuring compliance with specified codes and quality standards.
- Collaborate effectively with engineers, project managers, fitters, and other team members to ensure seamless workflow and timely completion of fabrication milestones.
- Strictly adhere to all company and industry safety policies, procedures, and best practices to maintain a secure working environment and prevent accidents.
- Participate actively in daily safety briefings, toolbox talks, and contribute to fostering a strong safety culture within the team.
- Assist in material handling, component assembly, and other fabrication shop activities as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area, ensuring proper storage of tools and materials.
Required Skills
- Expert proficiency in multiple welding techniques (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW)
- Demonstrated ability to accurately read and interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and welding procedure specifications (WPS)
- Advanced skills in metal fabrication, including cutting, grinding, fitting, and assembly
- Comprehensive understanding of welding metallurgy and various material properties
- In-depth knowledge of welding safety protocols, including hot work permits and PPE usage
- Proficient in operating and maintaining various welding machines and hand tools
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, defect-free welds
- Strong problem-solving abilities and capacity to troubleshoot welding challenges
- Physical stamina and dexterity required for prolonged welding tasks
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical diploma or trade certificate in welding and fabrication from a recognized institution.
- Relevant professional certifications from international bodies such as AWS (American Welding Society) or ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers).
- Proven experience in heavy industrial fabrication, oil & gas, or marine construction projects.
- Familiarity with Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods and quality control procedures.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Experience with advanced welding techniques or specialized alloys.
- Valid driver's license and ability to commute to various project sites as required.
