Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage engineering projects from initiation to close-out, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Develop detailed project plans, scope definitions, resource requirements, and risk management strategies.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, site assessments, and technical evaluations for proposed projects.
  • Oversee the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases of various port infrastructure projects, including marine structures, buildings, and utilities.
  • Prepare tender documents, evaluate bids, and manage contracts with external consultants and contractors.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions to keep projects on track.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all relevant engineering standards, safety regulations, environmental policies, and NPA guidelines.
  • Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., operations, finance, legal) and external stakeholders (e.g., regulatory bodies, communities).
  • Prepare comprehensive project reports, presentations, and documentation for management review.
  • Conduct post-completion reviews to assess project performance and identify lessons learned for future initiatives.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the continuous improvement of project management processes within the organization.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Marine Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of proven experience in project engineering and management, preferably within a port, maritime, or heavy civil construction environment.
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies and tools.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project).
  • Excellent technical knowledge of construction methods, materials, and relevant engineering codes/standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, multiple contractors, and diverse teams effectively.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • High level of proficiency in written and verbal English communication.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and environmental protection.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering or Project Management.
  • Professional Engineering (COREN) registration.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent.
  • Experience with marine infrastructure projects (e.g., jetties, wharves, dredging).
  • Familiarity with Nigerian public sector procurement processes.
