This vital role involves executing precise electrical wiring, conducting routine and preventive maintenance, and proficiently troubleshooting complex electrical issues across our diverse projects and facilities. You will be instrumental in the installation, inspection, and repair of electrical components, ensuring all work adheres to stringent safety regulations and industry best practices.
At GUMCO, our electricians are the backbone of our operations. You will work on a variety of tasks ranging from installing new electrical systems in commercial and industrial settings to maintaining existing infrastructure that supports power distribution. This includes working with conduits, wiring, electrical fixtures, control systems, and power circuits. Your day-to-day will involve interpreting blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications, as well as utilizing a wide array of tools and testing equipment to diagnose faults accurately and implement effective solutions. Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Work from blueprints, sketches, or verbal instructions to determine the layout of wiring and equipment.
- Adhere strictly to safety standards, electrical codes, and company policies.
- Perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Manage and oversee junior electricians or apprentices on project sites when required.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities.
- Ensure all electrical installations are compliant with local and national electrical codes (e.g., Nigerian Electrical Safety Standards).
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a certified Electrician (NTC, C&G, or equivalent)
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, and components
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams
- Experience with various electrical tools and testing equipment (e.g., multimeters, ammeters)
- Thorough understanding of safety procedures and electrical codes
- Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic abilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform manual tasks and work in various conditions
Preferred Qualifications
- Higher National Diploma (HND) or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Experience in industrial or utility-scale electrical projects
- Proficiency in operating heavy equipment related to electrical work
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
