Job Description
As an Investment Operations Associate at our West Lethbridge branch, you will play a pivotal role in the efficient and accurate execution of investment operations, directly supporting our financial advisors and wealth management teams. This is a dynamic opportunity for an individual with a keen eye for detail and a passion for the financial services industry. You will be instrumental in ensuring the seamless processing of client transactions, maintaining data integrity, and upholding compliance standards across all investment activities. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve a wide array of tasks, from trade settlement and reconciliation to client account maintenance and report generation. You will work with various financial instruments, including equities, fixed income, mutual funds, and Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), ensuring all activities adhere to regulatory requirements and internal policies. This role requires strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to delivering exceptional service to both internal stakeholders and our valued clients. You will be a key contributor to the overall operational efficiency of our investment services, directly impacting our ability to provide top-tier wealth management solutions. Key Responsibilities
- Process and settle investment trades accurately and efficiently across various asset classes, ensuring timely execution.
- Perform daily reconciliation of client accounts, portfolios, and holdings to ensure data integrity and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Assist in the onboarding of new clients, including diligent review of account opening documentation and accurate system setup.
- Generate and distribute client statements, performance reports, and other investment-related communications as required.
- Resolve operational discrepancies and client inquiries in a timely, professional, and client-focused manner.
- Ensure strict adherence to compliance regulations (e.g., IIROC, MFDA where applicable), internal policies, and industry best practices.
- Maintain accurate client records and transaction histories within internal systems, ensuring confidentiality and security.
- Collaborate effectively with financial advisors, portfolio managers, and other internal departments to optimize workflow and resolve operational issues.
- Support periodic internal and external audits and regulatory reporting requirements by providing accurate data and documentation.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute actively to operational enhancements and efficiency initiatives.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in financial services, ideally within investment operations, back-office support, or a related administrative role.
- Strong understanding of financial instruments, including equities, fixed income, mutual funds, and ETFs.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data entry, processing, and record-keeping.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, and experience with financial software platforms.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to issue resolution.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining complex information clearly.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively, prioritizing workload as needed.
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) or equivalent industry certification.
- Experience with portfolio management systems (e.g., Croesus, Broadridge) or CRM software.
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks such as IIROC and MFDA.
- Previous experience at a credit union or a regional financial institution.
