Job Description
Chevron Nigeria Limited is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Safety Officer to join our dynamic team in Uyo. This critical role is integral to upholding Chevron’s unwavering commitment to safety, ensuring a secure and compliant working environment across our operations. The Safety Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health, safety, and environmental (HSE) programs and procedures to prevent accidents, injuries, and occupational hazards. You will serve as a key resource and advisor on all HSE matters, working closely with various departments, contractors, and regulatory bodies.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and enforce robust HSE policies, procedures, and guidelines in line with Chevron's corporate standards, industry best practices, and local regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards, evaluate risks, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, near misses, and occupational illnesses, determining root causes and developing effective prevention strategies.
- Prepare and deliver comprehensive HSE training programs for employees and contractors, ensuring awareness and compliance with safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Monitor contractor safety performance, ensuring adherence to Chevron's HSE standards throughout project lifecycles.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and other relevant HSE data, preparing regular reports for management.
- Collaborate with operational teams to integrate safety considerations into planning, design, and execution phases of projects and routine operations.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant local and international environmental regulations and promote sustainable environmental practices.
- Lead and participate in emergency response planning and drills, ensuring preparedness for various scenarios.
- Stay abreast of new safety technologies, regulations, and industry trends to continuously enhance Chevron's HSE performance.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Safety Officer or similar role in the oil and gas industry.
- Thorough knowledge of HSE regulations, standards, and best practices (e.g., OSHA, API, ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and incident investigation techniques (e.g., Root Cause Analysis).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and drive positive safety culture.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Professional safety certifications such as NEBOSH International Diploma, IOSH Managing Safely, or CSP/ASP.
- Experience with HSE management systems implementation and auditing.
- Previous experience working with regulatory bodies in Nigeria (e.g., DPR, NOSDRA).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
