Job Description
Chukka Caribbean Adventures is seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and safety-conscious Tour Guide to join our team in Hopewell, Lucea. This is an incredible opportunity for individuals who thrive outdoors, possess a passion for adventure, and love connecting with people from diverse backgrounds. As a Tour Guide, you will be the face of Chukka, leading guests through exhilarating experiences and sharing the rich history, ecology, and culture of Jamaica. Your primary role will be to ensure our guests have an exhilarating, safe, and memorable adventure, whether they are ziplining through canopies, riding horses along the coastline, or exploring rivers. This requires not only excellent communication and storytelling abilities but also keen observational skills to anticipate guest needs and ensure their well-being throughout the tour. We are looking for someone who can effortlessly blend entertainment with education, making every moment an engaging and informative part of the Chukka journey. You will be responsible for preparing tour routes, ensuring all equipment is in top condition, conducting thorough safety briefings, and expertly guiding groups while managing any unexpected situations with professionalism and calm. This role demands a high degree of energy, adaptability, and a genuine desire to create extraordinary experiences for our guests.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and guide groups of tourists through various adventure and cultural excursions, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience.
- Provide engaging and informative commentary on local history, ecology, culture, and points of interest.
- Conduct thorough safety briefings and ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols and equipment usage.
- Perform pre-tour checks on equipment and routes, reporting any maintenance needs immediately.
- Manage group dynamics effectively, ensuring all participants are included and comfortable.
- Handle guest inquiries, concerns, and emergencies professionally and efficiently.
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure smooth operation and scheduling of tours.
- Represent Chukka Caribbean Adventures with professionalism and a positive attitude at all times.
- Continuously enhance knowledge of all tour offerings, safety standards, and local information.
Required Skills
- Excellent verbal communication and storytelling abilities in English.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a friendly and engaging demeanor.
- Proven ability to manage groups and ensure guest satisfaction.
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
- Physical fitness and ability to perform duties in an outdoor, active environment.
- Basic knowledge of Jamaican history, culture, and natural environment.
- Valid driver's license (preferably with a clean driving record).
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain immediately upon hire).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (2+ years) as a tour guide, adventure guide, or in a similar customer-facing role in tourism.
- Proficiency in additional languages (e.g., Spanish, French, German).
- Certification in specific adventure activities (e.g., ziplining, ropes course, water sports).
- Lifeguard certification.
- Strong understanding of environmental conservation practices and responsible tourism.
