Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, prepare, and bake a wide variety of pastries, desserts, breads, cakes, and other baked goods from scratch daily.
  • Create new and innovative dessert recipes and menu items, incorporating local Jamaican flavors and international trends.
  • Ensure all pastry items meet high standards of quality, presentation, and taste.
  • Manage inventory of pastry ingredients, ensuring optimal stock levels and minimizing waste.
  • Oversee the cleanliness and organization of the pastry station, adhering strictly to food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Train and mentor junior kitchen staff in pastry techniques and best practices.
  • Collaborate with the Head Chef and culinary team on menu planning and special event requirements.
  • Monitor and control food costs related to the pastry section.
  • Maintain all pastry equipment in good working order.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Pastry Chef, Baker, or relevant role.
  • Exceptional creativity and artistic flair in dessert presentation.
  • In-depth knowledge of baking principles, techniques, and pastry methods.
  • Proficiency in various pastry preparation methods, including doughs, fillings, icings, and decorations.
  • Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Ability to work efficiently and calmly in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Qualifications
