Island Health is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Business Continuity Support Officer to join our dynamic team in Nanaimo, British Columbia. This role involves a blend of administrative support, analytical tasks, and collaborative engagement with various departments. You will assist in conducting risk assessments, business impact analyses, and developing recovery strategies. A significant part of your responsibility will be to help coordinate training and awareness programs for staff, ensuring that all personnel understand their roles in emergency situations. You will also be involved in maintaining documentation, tracking compliance, and participating in regular exercises and tests of our continuity plans. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of Business Continuity Plans (BCPs) and Disaster Recovery Plans (DRPs).
  • Support the coordination of business impact analyses (BIAs) and risk assessments across various departments.
  • Maintain and update critical business continuity documentation, including contact lists, incident response procedures, and recovery strategies.
  • Help organize and facilitate training sessions and awareness programs for staff on business continuity and emergency preparedness.
  • Participate in the planning, execution, and post-exercise review of business continuity drills and tests.
  • Monitor and report on compliance with established business continuity policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide administrative support to the Business Continuity Management team, including scheduling meetings, preparing reports, and managing correspondence.
  • Assist in coordinating incident response activities during actual disruptions, working closely with relevant stakeholders.
  • Conduct research on best practices and emerging trends in business continuity and resilience.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to enhance organizational preparedness and response capabilities.

Required Skills

  • 1-2 years of experience in an administrative support, project coordination, or business continuity-related role.
  • Strong organizational skills with an exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Basic understanding of business continuity principles and practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Emergency Management, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with ISO 22301 standard or other recognized business continuity frameworks.
  • Experience working within a healthcare or other highly regulated industry.
  • Certification in Business Continuity (e.g., CBCP, ABCP) is an asset.
  • Experience with project management methodologies.
