Job Description
The North Shore Business Improvement Association (NSBIA) is seeking a highly motivated and creative Corporate Communications Coordinator to join our dedicated team. This pivotal role will be instrumental in shaping and disseminating the NSBIA’s message, enhancing our public image, and ensuring effective communication with our diverse stakeholders, including member businesses, the public, media, and governmental partners. As the Corporate Communications Coordinator, you will be the voice and storyteller for the North Shore, crafting compelling narratives that highlight the unique vibrancy, progress, and opportunities within our district. You will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies across various platforms, contributing significantly to our mission of economic revitalization and community engagement. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage communication strategies and campaigns to promote the NSBIA’s initiatives, events, and member businesses across various platforms.
- Create engaging and high-quality content for a multitude of channels, including our website, social media (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, LinkedIn), email newsletters, press releases, and other marketing materials.
- Manage and update the NSBIA website regularly, ensuring all content is current, accurate, and effectively reflects the organization's strategic objectives and upcoming activities.
- Oversee our comprehensive social media presence, including content planning, scheduling posts, actively engaging with the community, and continuously monitoring performance to maximize reach and impact.
- Build and maintain positive, proactive relationships with local media outlets, preparing comprehensive press kits, coordinating interviews, and ensuring consistent, clear messaging.
- Provide robust communications support for the planning and execution of all NSBIA events, encompassing promotional activities, on-site communications, and thorough post-event reporting.
- Monitor and meticulously analyze media coverage and social media engagement metrics, preparing detailed reports to assess communication effectiveness and inform future strategic adjustments.
- Assist in drafting compelling speeches, engaging presentations, and other critical internal and external communications for the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
- Actively collaborate with our valued member businesses and various community partners on joint communication initiatives, fostering mutual growth and visibility.
Required Skills
- Exceptional Written and Verbal Communication: Proven ability to craft clear, concise, and compelling messages for diverse audiences and platforms, coupled with strong public speaking and presentation skills.
- Content Creation & Editing: Demonstrated experience in writing and meticulously editing engaging content for both digital and print media, including newsletters, captivating social media posts, and impactful press releases.
- Social Media Management: Proficiency in effectively managing multiple social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, LinkedIn) with a solid understanding of content strategy, scheduling tools, and performance analytics.
- Website Content Management: Practical experience with widely used website content management systems (e.g., WordPress) for updating, maintaining, and enhancing web content.
- Media Relations: Demonstrated ability to build and nurture productive relationships with journalists and media professionals, alongside successful experience in drafting and distributing effective press releases.
- Project Management: Strong organizational skills and the proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet demanding deadlines consistently, and work both independently and as an integral part of a collaborative team.
- Attention to Detail: A meticulous and thorough approach to all work, ensuring absolute accuracy and consistently high quality in all communication materials produced.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree: A degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a closely related field.
- Graphic Design Software: Familiarity and basic proficiency with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) for creating visually appealing content.
- Photography/Videography Skills: Basic skills in capturing and editing high-quality photos or videos specifically for social media and web content.
- Experience in a BIA or Non-Profit Setting: Prior experience working with a Business Improvement Association or a non-profit organization, demonstrating an understanding of the unique communication challenges and opportunities within such environments.
- Local Knowledge: A strong, nuanced understanding of the Kamloops community, particularly the vibrant North Shore district, its diverse businesses, and its residents.
