Job Description
Groupe Forrest International is seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Heavy Equipment Operator, specializing in Excavators and Loaders, to join our dynamic team in Ilebo, Kasai Province. This is a critical role responsible for operating heavy machinery to support various construction, civil engineering, and infrastructure development projects throughout the region. As an integral part of our project teams, you will be instrumental in executing tasks ranging from excavation, trenching, material handling, loading trucks, and general site preparation, ensuring all operations are conducted efficiently, safely, and to the highest industry standards.
We are looking for an individual with a proven track record of operating heavy equipment in challenging environments, who understands the importance of routine maintenance checks and adhering to strict operational guidelines. The ideal candidate will possess an excellent understanding of site safety protocols, be capable of performing precision work, and contribute positively to a collaborative work environment. You will be expected to maintain your assigned machinery, report any mechanical issues promptly, and work closely with supervisors and other team members to meet project deadlines and specifications. Key Responsibilities
- Operate excavators and loaders safely and efficiently for various tasks including digging, trenching, backfilling, grading, and material handling.
- Perform daily pre-operation and post-operation inspections of equipment, including checking fluid levels, tires, brakes, lights, and other essential components.
- Load and unload materials (e.g., soil, gravel, sand, rock) onto trucks and other transport vehicles accurately and safely.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and local regulations at all times.
- Communicate effectively with site supervisors, engineers, and other team members regarding project progress, potential hazards, and equipment status.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area around the equipment and report any necessary maintenance or repair needs promptly.
- Ensure proper storage and securing of equipment when not in use.
- Assist with other manual labor or tasks on site as required, demonstrating teamwork and flexibility.
- Monitor ground conditions and surrounding areas for potential hazards and obstacles during operation.
Required Skills
- Proven experience operating heavy equipment, specifically excavators and loaders, in a construction or mining environment.
- Strong understanding of heavy equipment mechanics and ability to perform basic troubleshooting.
- Excellent spatial awareness and hand-eye coordination.
- Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to all safety protocols.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow instructions accurately.
- Physical stamina and ability to work long hours in varying weather conditions.
- Valid heavy equipment operator certification or relevant licenses.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with GPS-guided equipment systems.
- Basic knowledge of preventative maintenance schedules and procedures for heavy machinery.
- Ability to communicate in French or Lingala is a significant advantage.
- Previous experience working on large-scale infrastructure projects.
