Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the classroom teacher in preparing and delivering engaging lesson plans and educational activities.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students, including those with special educational needs, to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Help manage classroom behaviour and maintain a positive, orderly, and focused learning environment.
  • Prepare and organize classroom materials, resources, and equipment for daily lessons and projects.
  • Supervise students during non-instructional times, such as recess, lunch breaks, and transitions between activities.
  • Assist with the assessment of student progress, maintaining accurate records, and providing feedback to the teacher.
  • Support the teacher in communicating with parents/guardians regarding student progress and well-being, as needed.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) where applicable.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students at all times, adhering to school policies and procedures.
  • Participate in school meetings, professional development sessions, and extra-curricular activities as required.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that encourages student participation and enthusiasm for learning.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrated patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with children.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently when necessary.
  • Basic understanding of child development and learning principles.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to handle challenging situations with calm and professionalism.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of students and the classroom.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification or diploma in Education, Early Childhood Education, Special Education, or a related field.
  • Previous experience (at least 6 months) working in a school or childcare setting.
  • Knowledge of local Jamaican educational curriculum standards.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience supporting students with diverse learning styles or special needs.
  • A strong understanding of positive behaviour management techniques.
