Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain cybersecurity policies, standards, and procedures in alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular cybersecurity risk assessments, identify vulnerabilities, and recommend mitigation strategies to safeguard ONC's data and systems.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001) and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, PIPEDA).
  • Coordinate and support internal and external cybersecurity audits, preparing necessary documentation and facilitating audit responses.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of cybersecurity awareness training programs for all staff members, fostering a security-conscious culture.
  • Monitor changes in the cyber threat landscape and regulatory environment, recommending updates to governance documentation and controls as needed.
  • Collaborate with IT, data management, and operational teams to integrate security by design principles into new and existing projects and initiatives.
  • Generate comprehensive reports on cybersecurity posture, compliance status, and risk management activities for management and stakeholders.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 4 years) in cybersecurity governance, risk management, and compliance (GRC).
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST CSF, ISO 27001/27002, and CIS Controls.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining security policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct risk assessments, articulate complex risks to various audiences, and propose effective mitigation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences, with strong presentation abilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with common productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, collaboration platforms like Teams/Slack).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, or GSEC.
  • Experience working effectively in a remote team environment.
  • Familiarity with data privacy regulations specific to Canada (e.g., PIPEDA) and international standards (e.g., GDPR).
  • Experience in a scientific research, academic, or government organization with significant data assets.
  • Knowledge of cloud security principles and practices (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP) and data governance within cloud environments.
