Job Description
Are you a meticulous and proactive cybersecurity professional with a passion for governance, risk, and compliance? Ocean Networks Canada is seeking a dedicated Cybersecurity Governance Coordinator to join our dynamic team. This is a fully remote position, offering you the flexibility to work from anywhere in Canada, while still being an integral part of our mission to explore and understand the oceans. In this crucial role, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and maintaining our cybersecurity governance framework, ensuring the protection of our invaluable marine data and critical infrastructure. You will work cross-functionally to establish robust policies, conduct thorough risk assessments, and ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain cybersecurity policies, standards, and procedures in alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular cybersecurity risk assessments, identify vulnerabilities, and recommend mitigation strategies to safeguard ONC's data and systems.
- Ensure compliance with applicable cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001) and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, PIPEDA).
- Coordinate and support internal and external cybersecurity audits, preparing necessary documentation and facilitating audit responses.
- Assist in the development and delivery of cybersecurity awareness training programs for all staff members, fostering a security-conscious culture.
- Monitor changes in the cyber threat landscape and regulatory environment, recommending updates to governance documentation and controls as needed.
- Collaborate with IT, data management, and operational teams to integrate security by design principles into new and existing projects and initiatives.
- Generate comprehensive reports on cybersecurity posture, compliance status, and risk management activities for management and stakeholders.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 4 years) in cybersecurity governance, risk management, and compliance (GRC).
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST CSF, ISO 27001/27002, and CIS Controls.
- Experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining security policies, standards, and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct risk assessments, articulate complex risks to various audiences, and propose effective mitigation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences, with strong presentation abilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with common productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, collaboration platforms like Teams/Slack).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.
- Relevant industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, or GSEC.
- Experience working effectively in a remote team environment.
- Familiarity with data privacy regulations specific to Canada (e.g., PIPEDA) and international standards (e.g., GDPR).
- Experience in a scientific research, academic, or government organization with significant data assets.
- Knowledge of cloud security principles and practices (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP) and data governance within cloud environments.
