Job Description
Are you a seasoned Generator Operator with a passion for ensuring uninterrupted power supply in a large-scale industrial setting? Calabar Cement Company (CALCEMCO) is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Generator Operator to join our critical facilities team in Ikot Okpora, Calabar. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the efficient and safe operation, monitoring, and routine maintenance of our robust power generation systems, ensuring a consistent and reliable electricity supply across our extensive plant operations. Your expertise will be crucial in preventing downtime, troubleshooting issues promptly, and implementing preventive measures that support our continuous production goals.

Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor industrial generator sets (diesel and gas) according to established schedules and demand requirements.
- Perform routine daily checks, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs on generators, fuel systems, cooling systems, and electrical components.
- Monitor fuel levels, oil pressure, coolant temperature, battery voltage, and load distribution to ensure optimal performance.
- Execute switchover procedures between utility power and generator power, including synchronization and load management, using ATS panels.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and diagnose faults or malfunctions in generator systems and ancillary equipment.
- Maintain accurate logs of generator operation hours, fuel consumption, maintenance activities, and incidents.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, company policies, and environmental guidelines.
- Collaborate with maintenance and electrical teams for complex repairs and system upgrades.
- Ensure the generator area is clean, organized, and free from hazards.
- Respond promptly to power outages and emergency situations, taking corrective actions.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Generator Operator or similar role in an industrial setting.
- Strong technical knowledge of diesel and/or gas generator operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) and control panel operations.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical manuals.
- Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Strong understanding of safety protocols related to power generation and electrical systems.
- Mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with tools and equipment.
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
- Physical stamina to perform manual tasks and work in various environmental conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Trade test certificate or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, or Power Systems engineering.
- Experience with generators exceeding 1MW capacity.
- Knowledge of digital control systems for generators.
- Basic computer literacy for logging and reporting.
- Valid driver's license.
