Job Description

Canton Primary School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic team and provide exceptional classroom support. This full-time role is an incredible opportunity for an individual who is committed to fostering a positive and engaging learning environment for children across various age groups. As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the main class teacher, working with small groups of children, and providing one-to-one assistance to pupils who require additional support to access the curriculum. Your day will be varied and rewarding, involving everything from preparing learning materials and assisting with classroom displays to supporting children’s social and emotional development. Key Responsibilities
- Assist the class teacher in the planning and delivery of engaging lessons and educational activities.
- Provide one-to-one support or small group intervention for pupils requiring additional help with learning tasks.
- Help prepare and maintain classroom resources and learning materials, ensuring a tidy and stimulating environment.
- Support the social and emotional development of pupils, promoting positive behaviour and fostering self-esteem.
- Supervise children during lessons, playtime, and lunch breaks, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Assist with the assessment and recording of pupil progress under the guidance of the class teacher.
- Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and other staff members regarding pupil progress and welfare.
- Support children with special educational needs (SEN) or disabilities, adapting activities as necessary.
- Participate in school meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Contribute to the overall positive ethos and aims of the school.

Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools or equivalent.
- Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
- Knowledge of the UK National Curriculum, particularly at primary level.
- First Aid qualification.
- Previous experience in a primary school setting.
