Job Description

Canton Primary School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic team and provide exceptional classroom support. This full-time role is an incredible opportunity for an individual who is committed to fostering a positive and engaging learning environment for children across various age groups. As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the main class teacher, working with small groups of children, and providing one-to-one assistance to pupils who require additional support to access the curriculum. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the class teacher in the planning and delivery of engaging lessons and educational activities.
  • Provide one-to-one support or small group intervention for pupils requiring additional help with learning tasks.
  • Help prepare and maintain classroom resources and learning materials, ensuring a tidy and stimulating environment.
  • Support the social and emotional development of pupils, promoting positive behaviour and fostering self-esteem.
  • Supervise children during lessons, playtime, and lunch breaks, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Assist with the assessment and recording of pupil progress under the guidance of the class teacher.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and other staff members regarding pupil progress and welfare.
  • Support children with special educational needs (SEN) or disabilities, adapting activities as necessary.
  • Participate in school meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Contribute to the overall positive ethos and aims of the school.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with children.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour effectively and positively.
  • Basic knowledge of child development and learning processes.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office).

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools or equivalent.
  • Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
  • Knowledge of the UK National Curriculum, particularly at primary level.
  • First Aid qualification.
  • Previous experience in a primary school setting.
