Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and experienced Procurement Officer to join our dynamic team at Dangote Cement, specifically supporting our robust operations in Efut Esighi, Calabar. As a pivotal member of our supply chain function, the successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the efficient, cost-effective, and timely acquisition of a diverse range of goods and services critical for our cement production and broader operational needs. This demanding role requires a sharp negotiator with exceptional analytical skills, a meticulous planner, and an individual possessing a deep understanding of modern supply chain best practices, local vendor landscapes, and international procurement standards. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of procurement, from strategic sourcing and vendor evaluation to contract negotiation, purchase order issuance, and ongoing supplier relationship management, all while adhering strictly to company policies, ethical standards, and relevant regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end procurement process, from requisition to purchase order issuance and delivery tracking.
  • Source, evaluate, and select suppliers based on quality, cost-effectiveness, delivery speed, and reliability.
  • Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing with vendors to secure the best value for money and favorable conditions.
  • Monitor and track supplier performance, ensuring strict adherence to contractual agreements and quality standards.
  • Prepare and process purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and full compliance with internal policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date procurement records, including pricing, delivery information, and comprehensive supplier details.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders to understand their needs and ensure timely procurement of required items.
  • Identify and implement strategic cost-saving opportunities without compromising product quality or operational efficiency.
  • Conduct thorough market research to stay abreast of industry trends, pricing fluctuations, and new product availability.
  • Resolve vendor disputes and proactively address any issues related to product quality, delivery discrepancies, or service levels.
  • Ensure all procurement activities comply with company policies, ethical guidelines, and relevant local and national regulations.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 4 years) as a Procurement Officer or similar role, preferably within a large-scale manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Strong negotiation and strategic vendor management skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
  • Exceptional communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and function effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of supply chain management principles and best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Economics, Logistics, or a related field.
  • Professional certification in Procurement or Supply Chain Management (e.g., CIPS, CSCP).
  • Hands-on experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, particularly the procurement module of SAP.
  • Familiarity with local suppliers, market dynamics, and regulatory landscape in the Calabar region.
  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
