Job Description
Megastar Construction Company is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Carpenter to join our dynamic project team in Port Harcourt. Key Responsibilities
- Accurately interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine dimensions, materials, and quantities required for projects.
- Measure, cut, and shape wood, plastic, fiberglass, and other materials with precision using a full range of hand and power tools.
- Construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, such as foundations, frames, roofs, interior and exterior trim, and cabinetry.
- Install windows, doors, stairs, and other pre-fabricated items with meticulous attention to detail and fit.
- Inspect and replace damaged framework or other structures and fixtures as part of maintenance or renovation tasks.
- Estimate heights, widths, lengths, and other proportions accurately to ensure correct material usage and structural integrity.
- Collaborate effectively with other construction professionals, including project managers, engineers, and other tradespeople, to ensure seamless project execution.
- Ensure all work complies with local building codes, safety regulations, and stringent company standards for quality and craftsmanship.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, properly storing tools and materials to prevent accidents and improve efficiency.
- Identify and proactively report potential hazards or safety concerns on the job site to supervisors.
- Perform minor repairs and routine maintenance on carpentry tools and equipment to ensure their longevity and proper functioning.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise in various carpentry techniques, including foundational framing, roofing, finishing, and cabinetry.
- Proficiency in safely and effectively using a wide range of hand and power tools such as saws, drills, planers, nail guns, and routers.
- Strong ability to accurately read and interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and detailed construction drawings.
- Excellent mathematical skills essential for precise measurements, calculations, and material estimations.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a steadfast commitment to producing high-quality, defect-free work.
- Physical stamina and strength to perform demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials, extensive bending, kneeling, and comfortable working at heights.

Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational training or completion of a recognized apprenticeship program in carpentry.
- Certification from a reputable trade school or accredited institution in a relevant construction trade.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working on large-scale commercial or industrial construction projects.
- Comprehensive knowledge of different types of wood, building materials, and their specific properties and applications.
- Familiarity with modern construction technologies, sustainable building practices, and green building certifications.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience in specialized carpentry areas such as custom millwork or historical restoration.
