Key Responsibilities

  • Execute daily food preparation tasks including washing, peeling, cutting, and portioning ingredients for various dishes, salads, and sandwiches.
  • Assist with the assembly and plating of meals, ensuring adherence to standardized recipes and portion control guidelines.
  • Maintain high standards of kitchen cleanliness and sanitation by regularly cleaning work surfaces, equipment, and storage areas.
  • Wash and sanitize dishes, utensils, pots, and pans using dishwashing machines and manual methods, ensuring all items meet hygiene standards.
  • Receive, unpack, and store food supplies in designated areas, ensuring proper rotation (FIFO) and temperature control.
  • Monitor inventory levels of ingredients and supplies, reporting shortages to the supervisor as needed.
  • Operate basic kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including slicers, mixers, and ovens.
  • Adhere strictly to all FoodSafe and hospital-specific health and safety regulations and procedures.
  • Assist in serving food to patients, staff, and visitors in the cafeteria, providing friendly and efficient service.
  • Support the food service team in general kitchen duties and special projects as required.

Required Skills

  • Basic knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen safety.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and recipes accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Reliability and punctuality, with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 lbs, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with colleagues and customers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a food service, cafeteria, or kitchen environment.
  • Current FoodSafe Level 1 certification or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe.
  • Familiarity with institutional food service operations, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • A positive attitude and a customer-focused approach.
