World Vision International in Lubao, Kasai Province, is seeking a diligent and experienced Gardener to join our dedicated team. This vital role ensures that our office premises, guesthouse environments, and any associated facilities are meticulously maintained, presenting a welcoming, professional, and serene atmosphere for our staff, partners, and beneficiaries. Key Responsibilities
- Perform regular landscaping tasks including mowing, weeding, planting, pruning, watering, and fertilizing lawns, flowerbeds, and shrubbery.
- Maintain the aesthetic appeal and health of all plants, trees, and green spaces within World Vision premises, ensuring a vibrant and welcoming environment.
- Operate and maintain gardening tools and equipment safely and efficiently, performing minor repairs and cleaning as needed.
- Monitor plants for signs of disease or pest infestation and apply appropriate, environmentally friendly treatments.
- Ensure proper irrigation systems are in place and functioning optimally, adapting watering schedules as needed based on weather and plant requirements.
- Keep all garden areas tidy, removing debris, fallen leaves, and waste regularly to maintain cleanliness and safety.
- Assist with minor repairs and maintenance of garden structures, pathways, outdoor furniture, and boundary fences.
- Advise on suitable plant selections for the local climate and soil conditions, contributing to sustainable landscaping efforts.
- Contribute to maintaining a clean, safe, and secure outdoor environment around the office and guesthouse facilities.
- Adhere strictly to World Vision’s safety policies, environmental guidelines, and organizational values at all times.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (at least 2 years) in gardening, landscaping, or professional groundskeeping.
- Demonstrated knowledge of various plant species, their specific care requirements, and local flora relevant to the Kasai Province.
- Familiarity with standard gardening tools and equipment (e.g., mowers, trimmers, pruning shears) and their safe operation and maintenance.
- Ability to identify and effectively treat common plant diseases and pests using appropriate methods.
- Basic understanding of irrigation systems, including manual and automated watering techniques.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform demanding manual labor in varying weather conditions (heat, rain).
- Strong attention to detail, a proactive attitude, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of garden presentation.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively.
- Proficiency in French or Lingala is highly preferred for effective communication within the team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate or diploma in horticulture, agriculture, or a related environmental field.
- Previous experience working with an international non-governmental organization (NGO) or similar humanitarian agency.
- Knowledge of sustainable gardening practices, including composting and water conservation.
- Ability to drive a tractor or other light landscaping machinery (valid driving license an advantage).
