Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team at Dangote Cement. This pivotal role is based in our Calabar operations and is crucial for ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and safety of our heavy industrial machinery and plant equipment. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle management of mechanical assets, from installation and commissioning to preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair. You will play a critical role in minimizing downtime, improving operational efficiency, and adhering to strict quality and safety standards within our world-class cement manufacturing facility. This position requires a proactive problem-solver with a strong technical background in heavy machinery, excellent analytical skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities

  • Execute and oversee preventative and corrective maintenance programs for all mechanical plant equipment, including kilns, mills, crushers, conveyors, and heavy mobile equipment.
  • Diagnose complex mechanical failures and implement effective, timely repair solutions to minimize production interruptions.
  • Develop and implement robust maintenance strategies to enhance equipment reliability and extend asset lifespan.
  • Manage spare parts inventory, ensuring availability of critical components while optimizing stock levels.
  • Lead and supervise a team of technicians and artisans, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous learning.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures within the plant.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of equipment upgrades, installations, and commissioning projects.
  • Prepare detailed reports on equipment performance, maintenance activities, and cost analysis.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (electrical, automation) and production teams to optimize overall plant operations.
  • Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for scheduling, tracking, and reporting maintenance activities.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in mechanical maintenance within a heavy industrial setting (cement, mining, steel, oil & gas).
  • Proven expertise in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of heavy machinery, rotating equipment, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
  • Strong understanding of preventative and predictive maintenance techniques.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to safety and quality standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineering registration (COREN in Nigeria) or equivalent.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Knowledge of welding and fabrication techniques.
  • Previous experience in the cement manufacturing industry.
