Job Description
May Pen Hospital is seeking a dedicated and compassionate General Practice Physician to join our esteemed medical team. Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive primary healthcare services to patients of all ages, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Conduct thorough patient histories, perform physical examinations, and order appropriate diagnostic tests and laboratory investigations.
- Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans, including prescribing medication, recommending lifestyle modifications, and coordinating care.
- Refer patients to specialists, consultants, or other healthcare providers when specialized medical care or intervention is required.
- Educate patients and their families on health maintenance, disease prevention, self-management of chronic conditions, and medication adherence.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date electronic and physical patient medical records in compliance with hospital standards and legal requirements.
- Collaborate effectively with nurses, allied health professionals, pharmacists, and administrative staff to ensure seamless and coordinated patient care.
- Participate in hospital-wide quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and contribute to the development of best practice guidelines.
- Adhere strictly to all medical ethics, professional standards, and the policies and procedures established by May Pen Hospital and the Southern Regional Health Authority.
- Actively contribute to public health programs, community outreach initiatives, and health promotion campaigns as needed to improve population health.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior medical staff, interns, and medical students as part of continuous professional development and training within the hospital.
Required Skills
- Medical Doctor (M.D. or MBBS) degree from an accredited and recognized medical institution.
- Valid medical license and registration to practice medicine in Jamaica issued by the Medical Council of Jamaica.
- At least 3 years of post-internship/residency clinical experience in General Practice or Family Medicine.
- Demonstrated ability to accurately diagnose and effectively treat a wide range of common medical conditions across various specialties.
- Proficiency in performing minor medical procedures and emergency interventions.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and patient counseling skills, with a strong emphasis on empathy and cultural sensitivity.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a dynamic, fast-paced, and occasionally demanding hospital environment.
- Strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail in record keeping, and effective time management abilities.
