Job Description

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is seeking a dedicated and vigilant Security Officer to join our vital operations in Mwene-Ditu, Lomami Province. As a Security Officer with MSF in Mwene-Ditu, you will play a crucial part in the overall risk management strategy for our operations. Your daily activities will include meticulous control of entry and exit points, ensuring that only authorized personnel and vehicles access the compound. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and control access points to the humanitarian compound, ensuring only authorized personnel and vehicles enter and exit.
  • Conduct regular internal and external security patrols of the compound perimeter to identify and report potential threats or vulnerabilities.
  • Monitor surveillance systems and communication devices, ensuring they are operational and reporting any malfunctions.
  • Respond effectively to security incidents, emergencies, and alarms, following established protocols and escalating as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of visitor logs, incident reports, and daily security activities.
  • Conduct physical checks of incoming and outgoing goods and vehicles as per security procedures.
  • Provide basic security briefings to staff and visitors on local security context and safety measures.
  • Liaise with local authorities and community leaders on security matters as directed by the Project Coordinator.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of security plans and protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with MSF's safety and security regulations at all times.
  • Participate in security training and drills as required.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of proven experience in security services, preferably in a humanitarian or NGO context.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and effective under pressure and during emergencies.
  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills in French and Lingala (or other local languages prevalent in Lomami Province).
  • Basic knowledge of first aid and emergency response procedures.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform duties that may include standing, walking, and lifting.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making abilities.
  • Basic computer literacy (for reporting purposes).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or certification in Security Management or a related field.
  • Previous experience working with international NGOs or humanitarian organizations in conflict-affected regions.
  • Knowledge of local customs, traditions, and security dynamics in Mwene-Ditu and Lomami Province.
  • Experience with operating various security equipment (e.g., radios, alarm systems, CCTV).
  • Valid driver's license (motorcycle and/or car).
