Job Description
We are seeking a highly responsible and experienced Driver to join our dedicated logistics team in Gemena, Sud-Ubangi Province. This critical role involves the safe and timely transportation of essential medical supplies, equipment, and personnel to various MSF project sites, clinics, and health facilities across challenging terrains. As a Driver, you will be a vital link in ensuring that medical teams have the resources they need to deliver life-saving care to communities in need. You will be responsible for navigating local roads, often unpaved or difficult, and adhering strictly to MSF’s safety and security protocols. This position demands not only exceptional driving skills and vehicle maintenance knowledge but also a strong sense of responsibility, punctuality, and the ability to work effectively under pressure. Your dedication will directly contribute to the success of our humanitarian missions, directly impacting the health and well-being of thousands. Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently transport medical supplies, equipment, and personnel according to assigned schedules and routes.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, ensuring they are in optimal working condition.
- Conduct minor vehicle maintenance and basic repairs when necessary, and report any significant issues to the Logistics Manager.
- Strictly adhere to MSF's safety and security guidelines, including speed limits, defensive driving techniques, and communication protocols.
- Maintain accurate vehicle logs, including mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance records.
- Assist with loading and unloading medical supplies, ensuring proper handling and securing of cargo.
- Communicate effectively with the logistics team, project staff, and local authorities.
- Ensure the cleanliness and good working order of assigned vehicles.
- Represent MSF professionally and respectfully when interacting with beneficiaries, local partners, and authorities.
- Be prepared for travel to remote locations and potentially challenging environments.
Required Skills
- Valid professional driving license appropriate for cargo and passenger vehicles in DRC.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional driving experience, preferably in a humanitarian or logistics context.
- Proven ability to drive 4×4 vehicles in challenging terrain (e.g., unpaved roads, rural areas).
- Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics and ability to perform minor repairs.
- Strong understanding of local road networks and geographical knowledge of Sud-Ubangi Province.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of punctuality, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Fluency in French and Lingala.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with an international NGO or humanitarian organization.
- Training in defensive driving and/or advanced driving techniques.
- Certification in first aid.
- Familiarity with MSF's mission and values.
- Knowledge of other local languages/dialects spoken in Sud-Ubangi Province.
