Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our dynamic team in Belmont, Mandeville. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in managing all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from initial feasibility studies through to the final account. This pivotal role encompasses a broad spectrum of responsibilities, including accurate cost estimation, tender documentation preparation, contract administration, and rigorous financial monitoring to ensure projects are delivered within budget and to the highest standards. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients, providing expert advice on contractual matters, procurement strategies, and value engineering. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets, and tender documents from concept to final design stages.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses to inform project decisions.
  • Administer contract agreements, including variations, claims, and final accounts.
  • Undertake detailed measurement and valuation of works for interim payments and final settlements.
  • Provide expert advice on procurement strategies, cost control, and value engineering.
  • Monitor and report on project costs against budget, identifying potential risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare and analyse cash flow forecasts and project reports.
  • Liaise effectively with clients, contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant construction laws, standards, and safety regulations.
  • Assist in dispute resolution and arbitration where necessary.
  • Perform site visits and inspections to assess progress and verify claims.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive experience as a Quantity Surveyor in building and civil engineering projects.
  • Proficiency in construction cost estimating software (e.g., BuildSoft, CostX, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of contract law and construction regulations in Jamaica.
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proven experience in managing project costs from inception to completion.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Member of the Jamaica Institution of Quantity Surveyors (JIQS) or Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
  • Experience with FIDIC forms of contract.
  • PMP or similar project management certification.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Law, or a related field.
