Job Description
Are you a highly organised and strategically minded journalist with a passion for local news and a keen eye for compelling stories? JPIMedia is seeking an experienced News Producer with a specialisation in Editorial Planning to join our dynamic team covering Norfolk Park and the wider Sheffield area. This is a critical role that sits at the heart of our newsgathering operations, responsible for orchestrating the flow of content from inception to publication across multiple platforms. You will be instrumental in developing and executing our editorial strategy, ensuring we deliver timely, relevant, and engaging news to our diverse audience.
As a News Producer, you will be a visionary in identifying key narratives, planning long-term investigations, and reacting swiftly to breaking news. You will work collaboratively with reporters, editors, digital specialists, and photographers, guiding them in the creation of high-quality journalism. Your expertise in content management, understanding of audience engagement metrics, and commitment to journalistic ethics will be paramount. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive editorial content plans and schedules for print and digital platforms.
- Generate and commission compelling news stories, features, and multimedia content relevant to the Sheffield community.
- Coordinate daily newsgathering efforts, assigning tasks to reporters and ensuring efficient workflow.
- Monitor local and national news trends, identifying opportunities for unique local angles and investigations.
- Collaborate closely with reporters, editors, photographers, and digital teams to ensure cohesive storytelling and consistent tone.
- Oversee content production from conception through to publication, ensuring accuracy, journalistic integrity, and adherence to deadlines.
- Optimize content for search engines (SEO) and social media engagement.
- Manage breaking news situations, adapting editorial plans quickly and effectively.
- Utilise analytics and audience insights to inform editorial decisions and content strategy.
- Ensure all published content complies with media law, IPSO code, and ethical guidelines.
Required Skills
- Minimum 4 years of experience in a newsroom environment, with significant experience in editorial planning or producing roles.
- Exceptional news judgment and a deep understanding of what makes a compelling local story.
- Proven ability to develop and execute effective editorial strategies across multiple platforms (print, digital, social).
- Proficiency with Content Management Systems (CMS) and digital publishing tools.
- Strong understanding of media law and journalistic ethics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to inspire and guide a team.
