JPIMedia is seeking an experienced News Producer with a specialisation in Editorial Planning to join our dynamic team covering Norfolk Park and the wider Sheffield area. This is a critical role that sits at the heart of our newsgathering operations, responsible for orchestrating the flow of content from inception to publication across multiple platforms. As a News Producer, you will be a visionary in identifying key narratives, planning long-term investigations, and reacting swiftly to breaking news. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive editorial content plans and schedules for print and digital platforms.
  • Generate and commission compelling news stories, features, and multimedia content relevant to the Sheffield community.
  • Coordinate daily newsgathering efforts, assigning tasks to reporters and ensuring efficient workflow.
  • Monitor local and national news trends, identifying opportunities for unique local angles and investigations.
  • Collaborate closely with reporters, editors, photographers, and digital teams to ensure cohesive storytelling and consistent tone.
  • Oversee content production from conception through to publication, ensuring accuracy, journalistic integrity, and adherence to deadlines.
  • Optimize content for search engines (SEO) and social media engagement.
  • Manage breaking news situations, adapting editorial plans quickly and effectively.
  • Utilise analytics and audience insights to inform editorial decisions and content strategy.
  • Ensure all published content complies with media law, IPSO code, and ethical guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in a newsroom environment, with significant experience in editorial planning or producing roles.
  • Exceptional news judgment and a deep understanding of what makes a compelling local story.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute effective editorial strategies across multiple platforms (print, digital, social).
  • Proficiency with Content Management Systems (CMS) and digital publishing tools.
  • Strong understanding of media law and journalistic ethics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to inspire and guide a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Journalism, Media Studies, Communications, or a related field.
