Job Description
We are seeking dedicated and physically fit Construction Workers with specific experience in general labor and scaffolding to join our dynamic team in Long Bay, Negril. This vital role involves supporting various construction activities, ensuring sites are safe and operational, and assisting skilled tradespeople. A significant part of this position will involve the safe erection, dismantling, and maintenance of scaffolding structures according to strict safety protocols and industry standards. You will be responsible for preparing construction sites, operating hand and power tools, loading and unloading materials, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver with a strong work ethic, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to upholding the highest safety standards on every project. Key Responsibilities
- Safely erect, inspect, modify, and dismantle various types of scaffolding structures (e.g., tube and coupler, system scaffolding) in accordance with blueprints, safety regulations, and supervisor instructions.
- Perform general labor duties on construction sites, including site preparation, cleanup, and material handling (loading, unloading, and transporting materials).
- Operate a variety of hand and power tools safely and efficiently, such as drills, saws, grinders, and mixers.
- Assist skilled tradespeople (carpenters, masons, plumbers, electricians) with tasks as needed.
- Follow all company and industry safety protocols, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area to prevent accidents and ensure efficiency.
- Report any safety hazards, incidents, or equipment malfunctions immediately to the site supervisor.
- Perform physical tasks such as lifting heavy materials, digging, shoveling, and climbing ladders and scaffolding.
- Assist in the setup and removal of temporary structures, barriers, and signage.
- Adhere to project timelines and contribute to the overall efficiency of construction operations.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a construction laborer or in a similar role, with specific experience in scaffolding.
- Solid understanding of construction site safety practices and regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and follow instructions.
- Physical stamina and strength to perform manual labor, including lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
- Proficiency in operating various hand and power tools common in construction.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively in varying weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal scaffolding certification (e.g., OSHA, CISRS, or local equivalent).
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Jamaican driver's license.
- Experience with operating heavy machinery (e.g., forklifts, skid steers) is a plus.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
