JPIMedia is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Journalist to join our team, covering the vibrant Kiveton Park area within Sheffield and its surrounding villages. Key Responsibilities
- Generate original news stories, features, and investigations relevant to the Kiveton Park community and broader Sheffield area.
- Conduct interviews with a diverse range of sources, including local residents, officials, businesses, and community groups, ensuring accuracy and balance.
- Write clear, concise, and engaging copy suitable for both print publications and digital platforms, adhering to strict deadlines.
- Develop and manage a strong network of local contacts to identify news leads and maintain a pulse on community developments.
- Capture compelling multimedia content, including photographs and short videos, to enhance online stories and social media engagement.
- Utilize social media platforms effectively to break news, promote content, and interact with readers in a professional manner.
- Attend local council meetings, court hearings, community events, and press conferences as required, often outside standard office hours.
- Edit and proofread your own work and, occasionally, colleagues' work, ensuring factual accuracy, grammatical correctness, and adherence to editorial guidelines.
- Contribute to the overall editorial strategy, suggesting ideas for coverage and engaging with analytics to understand audience preferences.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of media law and IPSO guidelines, upholding the highest ethical standards in all reporting.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a journalist or reporter, preferably in local news.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling abilities.
- Strong news judgment and an ability to identify compelling angles.
- Proficiency in digital publishing and content management systems (CMS).
- Expertise in using social media for news gathering and dissemination.
- Excellent interviewing and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team under pressure.
- Full UK driving license and access to a car.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or a related field.
- NCTJ qualification or equivalent industry accreditation.
- Experience with photography and videography for news content.
- Familiarity with the Kiveton Park/Sheffield area and its communities.
