Job Description

Action Against Hunger is seeking a dedicated and passionate Nutritionist to lead and manage our critical Food Program initiatives in Kisangani, Tshopo Province. This role is pivotal in our mission to combat malnutrition and enhance food security within the vulnerable communities we serve. The Nutritionist will be responsible for the full lifecycle management of our food programs, from needs assessment and program design to implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.

Your expertise will directly impact the lives of countless individuals, particularly women and children, through the development and delivery of evidence-based nutritional interventions. You will be instrumental in conducting nutritional assessments, designing culturally appropriate food distribution plans, and implementing feeding programs in line with national and international guidelines (e.g., CMAM, IYCF). A significant aspect of this role involves community engagement and capacity building. You will train local health workers, community volunteers, and caregivers on best practices in nutrition, hygiene, and infant and young child feeding. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, and implement comprehensive nutrition and food security programs, including community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM), infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices, and general food assistance.
  • Conduct regular nutritional assessments, surveys, and surveillance activities to identify needs, monitor trends, and inform program adjustments.
  • Provide technical guidance and supervision to program staff, health workers, and community volunteers on nutrition interventions and protocols.
  • Develop and deliver training modules on various nutrition topics for beneficiaries, community health workers, and partner organizations.
  • Ensure strict adherence to national and international nutrition guidelines, as well as Action Against Hunger’s internal policies and procedures.
  • Monitor program progress, collect and analyze data, and prepare comprehensive reports for internal use and external donors.
  • Collaborate with local government health authorities, other NGOs, and community leaders to foster strong partnerships and ensure integrated program delivery.
  • Manage program budgets and resources efficiently and transparently.
  • Advocate for improved nutrition policies and practices at local and regional levels.
  • Ensure documentation of best practices, lessons learned, and success stories from the field.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health, Food Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing nutrition and food security programs, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts.
  • In-depth knowledge of national and international nutrition guidelines and best practices (e.g., CMAM, IYCF, Food Security Analysis).
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and interpretation using tools like EpiInfo, SPSS, or similar.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team management skills.
  • Fluency in both French (written and spoken) and at least one local language spoken in Kisangani (e.g., Swahili, Lingala).
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a challenging and multicultural environment.
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience with donor reporting requirements (e.g., USAID, ECHO, UN agencies).
  • Project management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2).
  • Experience in emergency response programming.
  • Valid driving license.
