Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Tailor specialising in Alterations & Stitching to join our dedicated team in Gleadless, Sheffield. Key Responsibilities
- Perform precise alterations and repairs on a variety of garments, including trousers, skirts, dresses, jackets, coats, and formal wear, to exact client specifications.
- Take accurate body and garment measurements, conduct professional fittings with customers, and offer expert advice on style and fit adjustments.
- Operate and maintain industrial and domestic sewing machines, overlockers, and other tailoring equipment safely and efficiently.
- Execute complex stitching techniques, including invisible hems, lining adjustments, zipper replacements, patching, and intricate garment repairs.
- Manage individual projects from initial client consultation and measurement taking to final quality inspection and delivery, ensuring complete customer satisfaction.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work area, adhering to all health and safety guidelines.
- Order and manage necessary tailoring supplies, threads, fabrics, and haberdashery items to ensure smooth operations.
- Ensure all work meets the company's stringent quality standards for finish, durability, and aesthetics.
- Provide excellent, friendly, and professional customer service, building rapport and trust with all clients.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 4 years) as a Tailor or Seamstress, with a strong portfolio showcasing alteration and repair work.
- Expertise in garment construction, pattern adjustments, fabric knowledge across various types (e.g., cotton, silk, wool, synthetics), and advanced fitting techniques.
- Proficiency in operating industrial and domestic sewing machines, including overlockers and specialised tailoring equipment.
- Exceptional attention to detail, precision, and a steadfast commitment to high-quality craftsmanship.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and efficiently prioritise multiple tasks.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a keen eye for aesthetic detail and proportionality.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective client interaction and team collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational training, diploma, or certification in tailoring, fashion design, garment technology, or a related field.
