Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Panel Beater – Car Body & Spray Technician to join our dynamic team in Ocho Rios. This pivotal role involves restoring damaged vehicle bodies to their original condition, ensuring both structural integrity and aesthetic perfection. You will be responsible for a comprehensive range of tasks, from initial damage assessment to the final spray paint finish. This includes repairing dents, replacing panels, aligning chassis, and applying expert paintwork. The ideal candidate will possess a keen eye for detail, a strong understanding of automotive body repair techniques, and proficiency with a variety of specialized tools and equipment. You must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively with other technicians to meet stringent quality standards and deadlines. Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately assess vehicle body damage and determine the most effective repair methods, including identifying underlying issues.
  • Perform panel beating, dent removal, filler application, and comprehensive sanding to restore vehicle bodywork to manufacturer specifications.
  • Utilize a variety of specialist tools and equipment, including power tools, MIG/spot welding equipment, hydraulic jacks, and specialized measuring systems.
  • Replace damaged panels, components, and structural parts as necessary, ensuring secure and correct fitting.
  • Ensure proper alignment of chassis and body components through precise measurement and adjustment techniques.
  • Prepare surfaces meticulously for painting, including cleaning, degreasing, masking, priming, and fine sanding to achieve a smooth, even base.
  • Mix and match paint colours accurately, utilizing computerized colour matching systems and applying expert knowledge of paint finishes.
  • Apply multi-stage spray paint finishes to a high standard, ensuring an even coat, excellent coverage, and a flawless, showroom-quality appearance.
  • Perform minor mechanical and electrical work related to body repair, such as removing and refitting bumpers, lights, and trim, and disconnecting/reconnecting wiring harnesses.
  • Conduct thorough quality control checks at various stages of the repair process to ensure all work meets company and industry standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment, regularly inspecting equipment for faults and ensuring proper disposal of waste materials.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and guidelines, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Panel Beater, Body Shop Technician, or similar role.
  • Expertise in dent removal, panel replacement, and structural repair techniques.
  • Proficiency in MIG welding, spot welding, and other relevant metal joining and fabrication techniques.
  • Highly skilled in surface preparation, including sanding, filling, and priming to achieve a perfect base.
  • Competency in paint mixing, colour matching, and advanced spray painting techniques.
  • Strong understanding of modern vehicle body construction, materials, and repair methodologies.
  • Ability to operate and maintain a wide range of hand and power tools, and specialized body repair equipment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a steadfast commitment to high-quality workmanship.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose complex repair issues.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational training, NCTVET certification, or a diploma in automotive body repair or painting.
  • Experience with a diverse range of car makes and models, including luxury vehicles.
  • Familiarity with modern automotive refinishing systems, water-based paints, and clear coat applications.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics and electrics relevant to body repairs.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, repair diagrams, and estimation software outputs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective teamwork and customer interaction.
