Key Responsibilities
- Efficiently load and unload freight from trailers using material handling equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks) while adhering to safety guidelines.
- Sort, organize, and stack freight according to designated routes and shipping instructions.
- Verify counts and descriptions of freight, checking for damage or discrepancies.
- Operate scanning equipment to accurately track incoming and outgoing shipments.
- Perform daily pre-shift inspections of equipment and report any malfunctions or safety concerns.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment within the warehouse and on the dock.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and drivers to ensure smooth operations.
- Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and governmental regulations.
- Secure freight properly within trailers to prevent movement and damage during transit.
Required Skills
- Ability to lift, push, and pull freight weighing up to 70 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs occasionally.
- Strong attention to detail for accurate freight handling and sorting.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety procedures and a safe working environment.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, physically demanding warehouse environment.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Reliability and punctuality are essential.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills to read labels and count freight.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (6+ months) in a warehouse, logistics, or freight handling role.
- Forklift certification or previous experience operating a forklift and pallet jack.
- Experience with freight scanning systems and inventory management.
