Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Welder with expertise in fabrication and metalwork to join our dedicated team in St. Ann’s Bay, Saint Ann. This is a critical role that supports the integrity and functionality of our extensive operational infrastructure, including warehousing facilities, equipment, and various structural elements. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing precise welding, cutting, and fabrication tasks using a variety of materials and techniques. You will interpret blueprints, schematics, and work orders to produce high-quality metal components and structures, ensuring all work meets rigorous industry standards and safety regulations.
This role requires a meticulous individual with a keen eye for detail and a strong commitment to quality craftsmanship. You will be instrumental in both routine maintenance and the development of new projects, from repairing existing machinery and frameworks to fabricating custom metal parts. Your expertise will directly contribute to the operational efficiency and safety across our facilities. Key Responsibilities
- Perform welding, cutting, and fabricating tasks using various welding equipment and techniques (MIG, TIG, Stick, Flux-cored).
- Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders to determine material requirements and task specifications.
- Measure, cut, and shape metal materials using torches, grinders, and other power tools.
- Inspect finished products and structures for quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications.
- Conduct routine maintenance and repair on existing metal structures, equipment, and machinery.
- Ensure all welding and fabrication work complies with safety standards and company policies.
- Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment safely as required.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored and maintained.
- Collaborate with other team members, supervisors, and contractors to complete projects efficiently.
- Identify and resolve issues related to welding processes, materials, and equipment.
- Document work performed, materials used, and any encountered issues.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and Stick welding processes.
- Strong understanding of metal fabrication techniques and principles.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Knowledge of various metals and their properties (steel, stainless steel, aluminum).
- Experience with cutting tools such as grinders, plasma cutters, and oxy-acetylene torches.
- Adherence to strict safety protocols and personal protective equipment (PPE) usage.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical stamina to perform demanding tasks, including lifting and standing for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational training or certification in Welding or Metal Fabrication.
- Experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or construction environment.
- Familiarity with preventative maintenance schedules and procedures.
- Ability to operate forklifts and other heavy machinery (certification preferred).
- Basic computer literacy for record-keeping and communication.
