Job Description
We are actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced Carpenter with a specialized focus on furniture crafting and general woodwork to join our esteemed maintenance department at Sandals Ochi Beach Resort. This pivotal role requires an individual who is not only a master craftsman but also possesses a keen eye for detail and a passion for maintaining the highest standards of luxury and aesthetics inherent to the Sandals brand. Your primary responsibilities will involve the meticulous fabrication, repair, and restoration of all wooden elements throughout our expansive resort property. This includes, but is not limited to, creating bespoke furniture pieces for our opulent suites and public areas, ensuring the structural integrity and beautiful finish of doors, windows, frames, cabinetry, and various intricate architectural features.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate an advanced understanding of diverse wood types, traditional and contemporary finishing techniques, and robust construction methodologies. You will be expected to expertly interpret complex technical drawings, blueprints, and sketches, translating them into precise, high-quality finished products. Operating a full spectrum of carpentry hand and power tools, as well as specialized machinery, safely and efficiently is paramount. Key Responsibilities
- Design, construct, repair, and install custom furniture, cabinetry, and other wooden fixtures tailored to resort standards.
- Execute general carpentry tasks, including the maintenance and repair of doors, windows, frames, partitions, roofs, and other structural components.
- Accurately interpret and work from blueprints, technical drawings, and verbal instructions to determine project specifications and dimensions.
- Select, measure, cut, and shape appropriate wood, laminates, and other materials, optimizing for quality and minimizing waste.
- Operate and maintain a comprehensive range of carpentry hand tools, power tools, and workshop machinery safely and effectively.
- Conduct thorough inspections of finished work and existing structures to ensure compliance with quality standards, resort specifications, and safety regulations.
- Collaborate closely with other maintenance staff and resort departments to ensure timely completion of projects and seamless operational flow.
- Adhere strictly to all resort safety protocols, relevant building codes, and industry best practices to maintain a safe work environment.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve carpentry-related issues promptly and efficiently to minimize disruption to resort operations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and secure carpentry workshop and work sites.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced team members or apprentices as required.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of proven experience as a professional Carpenter, with a strong portfolio in furniture making and general woodwork.
- Demonstrable proficiency in reading and accurately interpreting blueprints, architectural drawings, and technical schematics.
- Expert-level knowledge and safe operation of a wide array of hand tools, power tools, and carpentry machinery.
- Comprehensive understanding of carpentry techniques, construction methods, wood properties, and finishing processes.
- Exceptional precision, meticulous attention to detail, and superior problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to work effectively both independently on complex tasks and collaboratively within a diverse team environment.
- Physical stamina and strength required for manual labor, lifting heavy materials, and prolonged standing or bending.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills to interact professionally with colleagues and management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational training, diploma, or certification in Carpentry, Joinery, or a closely related trade.
- Prior experience working within a luxury resort, hotel, or hospitality environment.
- Specialized knowledge in advanced wood finishing techniques, including staining, varnishing, and polishing.
- Valid Jamaican driver's license.
