Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and dispatch drivers for local and regional freight pickups and deliveries, optimizing routes for efficiency and timeliness.
- Monitor real-time shipment progress using dispatch software and GPS tracking, proactively addressing potential delays or issues.
- Communicate effectively with drivers, customers, and internal departments regarding shipment status, changes, and service needs.
- Resolve dispatch-related problems, including equipment breakdowns, traffic delays, and delivery exceptions, with minimal disruption.
- Maintain accurate dispatch records, driver logs, and service reports, ensuring data integrity and compliance.
- Ensure all dispatch operations adhere to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, company safety policies, and customer requirements.
- Assist in driver scheduling, ensuring adequate coverage and managing driver hours of service.
- Provide exceptional customer service, responding to inquiries and providing updates on freight movement.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the dispatch unit to enhance operational efficiency and service quality.
Required Skills
- Minimum 2 years of experience in transportation dispatch, logistics, or a related operational role.
- Proficiency in dispatch software, TMS (Transportation Management Systems), and GPS tracking tools.
- Strong understanding of DOT regulations, hours of service (HOS), and other relevant transportation compliance standards.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities and the capacity to make quick, informed decisions under pressure.
- Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience with LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) freight operations.
- Knowledge of the Columbus, GA and surrounding regional transportation network.
- Bilingual abilities (e.g., English/Spanish) are a plus.
