Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily store operations, ensuring efficiency, cleanliness, and compliance with company standards.
  • Lead, motivate, and train a team of retail assistants, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Oversee customer service interactions, resolving issues promptly and ensuring exceptional customer satisfaction.
  • Manage stock levels, including receiving deliveries, merchandising, replenishment, and stock rotation to maximise sales and minimise waste.
  • Handle cash and till operations accurately, including daily reconciliations and banking procedures.
  • Implement and enforce all company policies and procedures, including those related to health, safety, and security.
  • Contribute to achieving store sales targets, promotional execution, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Ensure store presentation and visual merchandising standards are consistently met to attract and engage customers.
  • Conduct regular checks to ensure product availability, correct pricing, and proper display.
  • Assist with staff scheduling and rota management to ensure adequate coverage and operational efficiency.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in a retail environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or team leader role.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities, with a track record of motivating and developing staff.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in cash handling, till operations, and basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic retail environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • A keen eye for detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of store presentation.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, as required by retail demands.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Retail Management or equivalent qualification.
  • Basic First Aid certification.
  • Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or higher) given the nature of a food retail environment.
  • Experience with inventory management systems and point-of-sale (POS) software.
  • Familiarity with Co-op specific operational procedures.
