Key Responsibilities

  • Design, install, maintain, and repair electrical equipment and systems including power generation, transmission, distribution, and control systems.
  • Conduct regular inspections, testing, and preventative maintenance on electrical infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and compliance with industry standards.
  • Diagnose complex electrical faults and implement effective troubleshooting strategies to minimize downtime and ensure operational continuity.
  • Prepare technical specifications, scope of work, and requisitions for electrical materials and services.
  • Oversee the work of junior engineers, technicians, and contractors, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and quality standards.
  • Participate in project planning, execution, and commissioning of new electrical installations and upgrades.
  • Develop and implement robust safety procedures for electrical operations, ensuring compliance with local and international regulations (e.g., IEEE, IEC, NEC).
  • Prepare detailed reports on electrical system performance, maintenance activities, and incident investigations.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (Mechanical, Instrument, Process) to ensure integrated and efficient operational solutions.
  • Stay abreast of new technologies, industry best practices, and regulatory changes in electrical engineering.
  • Manage spare parts inventory for critical electrical components and systems.
  • Provide technical support and guidance during emergencies and operational excursions.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in electrical systems design, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, preferably in the oil & gas or heavy industrial sector.
  • Proficiency in electrical power distribution systems, switchgear, transformers, motor control centers (MCCs), and protective relays.
  • Strong understanding of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
  • Solid knowledge of electrical safety standards and regulations (e.g., NFPA 70E, API RP 14F/G).
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, single line diagrams, and P&IDs.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities.
  • Proficiency in relevant engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, PSCAD).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Registered Engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
  • Certifications in project management (e.g., PMP) or electrical safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH).
  • Experience with high voltage (HV) and medium voltage (MV) electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of rotating equipment electrical systems (e.g., generators, motors, turbines).
  • Familiarity with hazardous area classification and explosion-proof electrical equipment.
