Stagecoach Bluebird is seeking an experienced Bus Maintenance Mechanic to join our Fleet Support team in the Stonehaven, Aberdeen area. This pivotal role involves the comprehensive maintenance, repair, and inspection of our diverse fleet of public service vehicles (PSVs), ensuring they meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and operational efficiency. Working within a dynamic workshop environment, you will undertake a wide range of tasks from routine servicing and preventative maintenance to complex fault diagnosis and repair of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing on our fleet of buses and coaches.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults using advanced diagnostic equipment and manual techniques.
  • Conduct comprehensive vehicle inspections (including VOSA/DVSA standards) and prepare vehicles for MOT/annual tests.
  • Carry out engine overhauls, gearbox repairs, brake system adjustments, and steering system maintenance.
  • Perform welding and fabrication work as required for structural repairs.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts used and labour hours.
  • Ensure all work is completed to the highest safety and quality standards, adhering to company policies and industry regulations.
  • Assist in the recovery and repair of broken-down vehicles as needed.
  • Keep the workshop area clean, organised, and safe.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments to ensure fleet availability.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a vehicle mechanic, preferably with PSVs, HGVs, or similar large vehicles.
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or Automotive Engineering.
  • Strong diagnostic skills and the ability to use electronic diagnostic tools.
  • Proficiency in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Full UK driving license; PCV driving license is highly desirable but not essential initially.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety practices.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PCV (Passenger Carrying Vehicle) driving license.
  • Experience with Cummins, Volvo, or Scania engines.
  • IRTEC qualification.
  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Knowledge of VOSA/DVSA regulations and compliance.
  • Experience working in a depot or fleet maintenance environment.
