As a Bookshop Attendant, you will be the friendly face of our establishment, assisting customers in navigating our diverse collection, from essential textbooks to engaging fiction and educational supplies. Your primary responsibilities will include helping customers locate specific items, offering recommendations, processing sales accurately at the cashier desk, and maintaining an organized and visually appealing retail space. This role is crucial in ensuring a positive shopping experience for everyone who walks through our doors.

Beyond direct customer interaction, you will play a vital role in stock management, which involves receiving new inventory, shelving books according to our classification system, and assisting with stock counts. We are looking for someone who possesses strong communication skills, an eye for detail, and a proactive approach to maintaining a tidy and efficient workspace. Key Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist customers with inquiries, book location, and product information in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system efficiently, process cash, card, and other transactions accurately, and handle returns/exchanges.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting bookshop environment, including shelving, tidying displays, and ensuring stock is well-presented.
  • Receive, unpack, and process new inventory, ensuring accurate record-keeping and proper placement on shelves.
  • Assist with stock audits, inventory management, and identifying popular or fast-moving titles.
  • Provide knowledgeable recommendations for books, educational materials, and related products based on customer needs.
  • Support special events, book launches, and promotional activities as required.
  • Handle customer complaints or issues with patience and professionalism, escalating to management when necessary.
  • Stay informed about new arrivals, bestsellers, and educational trends to better assist customers.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to achieve sales targets and maintain high operational standards.

Required Skills

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Basic mathematical skills and experience with cash handling and POS systems.
