The Starbank Inn is seeking a dedicated and experienced Bouncer – Club & Event Entry Control to join our dynamic team in Newhaven, Edinburgh. In this pivotal role, you will be the face of our establishment, ensuring a secure and enjoyable environment for all our patrons and staff. Your primary responsibility will be to manage entry and exit, verify identification, maintain order, and proactively address any potential issues to prevent escalation. You will be instrumental in upholding our licensing objectives and house policies, all while providing a professional, polite, and approachable presence. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and control entry to the premises, including age verification and checking for prohibited items.
- Maintain a visible and professional presence, deterring undesirable behaviour and ensuring a safe environment.
- Monitor the premises regularly, identifying and addressing potential security risks or disturbances promptly.
- De-escalate conflicts and resolve disputes calmly and effectively, using appropriate techniques.
- Liaise with management, police, and emergency services when necessary, providing accurate incident reports.
- Enforce house rules and licensing conditions, ensuring responsible service of alcohol and adherence to capacity limits.
- Assist patrons with enquiries, provide directions, and offer general customer service.
- Conduct thorough searches where authorized and necessary, respecting individual privacy.
- Provide first aid assistance if trained and required, or coordinate with qualified personnel.
- Participate in team briefings and contribute to a positive and cooperative work environment.
Required Skills
- Valid SIA Door Supervisor License (essential for working in the UK private security industry).
- Proven experience in a similar security or door supervision role, preferably in a hospitality setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective conflict resolution and de-escalation abilities.
- Good physical fitness and stamina to stand for extended periods and respond quickly to incidents.
- Knowledge of relevant licensing laws, health and safety regulations.
- A professional, approachable, and assertive demeanor.
Preferred Qualifications
- First Aid at Work qualification.
- Experience working in a busy pub or event venue in Edinburgh.
- Local knowledge of Newhaven and surrounding areas.
- Additional security certifications or training.
