Job Description
We are seeking a vigilant, professional, and service-oriented Security Staff member to join our team in a premier commercial building located in Downtown Orlando. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our tenants, visitors, and property assets. As a Security Staff member, you will be the frontline representative of our commitment to a secure and orderly environment. Your daily duties will involve a blend of proactive security measures, responsive incident handling, and excellent customer service. You will monitor surveillance systems, patrol designated areas, control access points, and respond to alarms or disturbances with a calm and professional demeanor. This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong observational skills, and the ability to act swiftly and decisively in emergency situations. Beyond security, you will also serve as a helpful point of contact, providing directions and assistance to tenants and guests, embodying the Highwoods Properties standard of hospitality and professionalism. We are looking for an individual who is dedicated to maintaining a secure and welcoming atmosphere, capable of working independently and as part of a team, and committed to upholding the highest standards of safety and conduct.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular patrols of the building interior and exterior, ensuring all areas are secure and free from unauthorized access or suspicious activity.
- Monitor surveillance cameras and alarm systems, promptly identifying and responding to potential security threats or incidents.
- Control access to the building and restricted areas, verifying credentials of employees, visitors, and contractors.
- Respond to emergencies such as medical incidents, fires, and security breaches, following established protocols and coordinating with emergency services.
- Prepare detailed and accurate reports on all incidents, observations, and security breaches.
- Provide excellent customer service, assisting tenants and visitors with inquiries, directions, and general support.
- Enforce building rules and regulations to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
- Operate and maintain security equipment, including access control systems, CCTV, and communication devices.
- Conduct security checks on incoming and outgoing deliveries and personnel as required.
- Collaborate with property management and local law enforcement when necessary to address security concerns.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field (minimum 2 years).
- Strong observational and analytical skills with an excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
- Proficiency in using security equipment, including CCTV systems, access control software, and two-way radios.
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure and during emergencies.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods.
- Basic computer literacy for report writing and data entry.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid Florida Class D Security License.
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
- Previous experience in commercial building security or property management settings.
- Associate's degree or higher in Criminal Justice or a related field.
