Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in basic food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, and cutting vegetables, and portioning ingredients as directed by the kitchen staff.
  • Support the main cooks and chefs in various kitchen activities, ensuring smooth workflow during peak service times.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in the kitchen and dining areas, including washing dishes, sanitizing workstations, and cleaning equipment regularly.
  • Assist with setting up and stocking food service areas, ensuring all necessary utensils, condiments, and prepared items are available for service.
  • Serve food to students and staff in a friendly and efficient manner, adhering to portion control and dietary guidelines.
  • Receive, unpack, and store food and supplies in appropriate storage areas, carefully checking for quality, quantity, and expiration dates.
  • Dispose of waste and recycling responsibly, following established company procedures and environmental guidelines.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, including proper food handling, personal hygiene practices, and equipment operation protocols.

Required Skills

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Strong commitment to cleanliness, hygiene, and food safety standards.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs (11 kg) comfortably.
  • Reliability and punctuality are essential for maintaining operational flow.
  • Basic understanding of kitchen operations, tools, and equipment.
  • Willingness to learn, take direction, and adapt to changing tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (6+ months) in a kitchen, food service, or cafeteria setting.
  • Valid Food Handler’s Certificate from a recognized authority (e.g., local public health unit).
  • High school diploma or equivalent secondary education.
  • Experience working in an educational or institutional food service environment.
