Job Description

Radio Okapi is seeking a talented and dedicated Sound Mixer with expertise in Studio Editing to join our dynamic team in Mwene-Ditu, Lomami Province. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain audio mixing consoles, microphones, and other recording equipment during live broadcasts and studio sessions.
  • Record, edit, mix, and master audio content for various radio programs, including news, current affairs, features, and cultural shows.
  • Ensure optimal sound quality, clarity, and balance for all broadcast material, adhering to Radio Okapi's production standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with producers, presenters, and journalists to understand project requirements and achieve desired audio outcomes.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues with audio equipment and software promptly to minimize disruptions.
  • Perform sound design and add sound effects or music beds as required to enhance program content.
  • Archive audio assets systematically and manage digital audio workstations (DAW) efficiently.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and technologies in audio production and broadcast.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to colleagues on audio-related matters.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Sound Mixer or Audio Engineer, with a focus on studio editing.
  • Proficiency in professional audio editing software (e.g., Adobe Audition, Pro Tools, Logic Pro X, Audacity).
  • Strong understanding of audio signal flow, acoustics, microphone techniques, and digital audio workstations.
  • Excellent ear for detail, with the ability to identify and correct audio imperfections.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate and troubleshoot audio mixing consoles and recording equipment.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet strict broadcast deadlines.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Fluency in French and/or Lingala is highly desirable, given the operational context.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree or diploma in Audio Engineering, Broadcast Media, Music Production, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working in a radio broadcast environment, particularly in public service media.
  • Knowledge of broadcast standards and regulations in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
  • Familiarity with local Congolese music, culture, and social dynamics.
  • Experience with live sound mixing for interviews and panel discussions.
