As a Stagehand, you will be an integral part of the backstage crew, responsible for the physical preparation, operation, and strike of sets, props, lighting, and sound equipment for a diverse range of productions. Your role will be critical in ensuring that every performance runs smoothly, safely, and to the highest professional standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the loading, unloading, and safe handling of scenery, props, lighting, sound, and other technical equipment.
  • Participate in the assembly, dismantling, and maintenance of stage sets and structures, ensuring all elements are secure and functional.
  • Operate manual and automated flying systems, stage lifts, and other mechanical stage equipment under supervision.
  • Execute timely and efficient scene changes during rehearsals and live performances.
  • Set up and strike musical instruments, audio equipment, and microphones as required for concerts and theatrical productions.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on stage equipment and props.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and venue policies, ensuring a safe working environment for all.
  • Work collaboratively with the technical team, stage management, and visiting companies to meet production requirements.
  • Assist with the maintenance and cleanliness of backstage areas, workshops, and storage facilities.
  • Attend pre-production meetings and briefings to understand show requirements and technical cues.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 1.5 years) in a theatre, live event, or similar technical role.
  • Basic knowledge of stagecraft, rigging, and safe working practices.
  • Ability to operate a range of hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Strong physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects and work in various physical positions.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work effectively under pressure.
  • A flexible approach to working hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal training or certification in technical theatre, stage management, or a related field.
  • Experience with automated stage machinery or counterweight flying systems.
  • Knowledge of theatrical lighting or sound equipment.
  • Basic first aid certification.
  • Driving licence and access to transport.
