GH Event Lighting is seeking a dedicated and talented Lighting Technician to join our growing team in Blackhall, Edinburgh. This pivotal role involves the setup, operation, and derigging of lighting equipment for various stages and events across Edinburgh and beyond. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of lighting principles, DMX control, power distribution, and a keen eye for detail. You’ll be comfortable working independently or as part of a larger crew, often under pressure and tight deadlines, while maintaining the highest safety standards. Your day-to-day could involve everything from meticulously rigging fixtures in a theatre to programming complex lighting cues for a concert or corporate gala. Key Responsibilities

  • Execute the safe and efficient setup, installation, and rigging of various lighting fixtures and control systems for events and stages.
  • Operate lighting consoles and associated equipment during live events, ensuring seamless transitions and adherence to design specifications.
  • Perform routine maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of lighting equipment to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Assist with the loading, unloading, and transportation of equipment, ensuring proper care and inventory management.
  • Collaborate effectively with production managers, clients, and other technical departments (audio, video, staging) to achieve overall event objectives.
  • Interpret lighting plots, schematics, and technical riders, making necessary adjustments on-site as required.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and company policies at all times.
  • Participate in the planning and preparation stages of projects, offering technical insights and solutions.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years' professional experience as a Lighting Technician in live events or theatre.
  • Proficiency in setting up and operating various lighting consoles (e.g., Avolites, Chamsys, grandMA).
  • Strong knowledge of DMX, Art-Net, and other lighting control protocols.
  • Solid understanding of electrical safety and power distribution for temporary installations.
  • Ability to read and interpret lighting plots, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues quickly.
  • Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy equipment, work at heights, and stand for long periods.
  • Valid UK driving licence is essential.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant technical qualification or certification in lighting design or event technology.
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., Vectorworks Spotlight) for lighting pre-visualization.
  • Knowledge of intelligent lighting fixtures and LED technologies.
  • IPAF or PASMA certification.
  • First Aid certification.
