Job Description

The University of Calabar Press is seeking a dedicated and meticulous Publishing Assistant to provide essential editorial and administrative support to our dynamic team. This full-time, on-site role is perfect for an organized individual with a keen eye for detail and a passion for academic publishing. You will be instrumental in the smooth operation of our editorial processes, from the initial submission of manuscripts to their preparation for print or digital publication. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive editorial assistance, including reviewing manuscripts for adherence to submission guidelines.
  • Perform initial copyediting and proofreading of academic texts, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and grammatical correctness.
  • Assist in the preparation of manuscripts for publication, including formatting, layout checks, and citation verification.
  • Coordinate communication between authors, peer reviewers, and internal editorial staff.
  • Maintain and update publication schedules, ensuring timely progression of projects.
  • Manage and organize editorial files, correspondence, and digital assets.
  • Support the marketing and promotion efforts for newly released publications.
  • Conduct research as needed to verify facts, citations, or permissions for published materials.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proven experience with editing, proofreading, and copyediting.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Publishing, or a related field.
