Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Printing Press Operator with a strong background in offset printing to join our vibrant production team in Calabar. This is a critical hands-on role on our production floor, where you will be instrumental in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting our state-of-the-art offset printing presses. As a Printing Press Operator, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient production of a wide array of printed materials, maintaining the highest standards of quality, and meeting strict production deadlines.
Your day-to-day will involve setting up jobs, making critical adjustments to ink flow, paper feeding, and registration, and continuously monitoring the printing process to achieve optimal results. Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain multi-color offset printing presses (e.g., Heidelberg, Komori) according to job specifications and safety guidelines.
- Set up printing jobs, including mounting plates, mixing inks, loading paper, and adjusting press for optimal performance.
- Monitor print quality throughout production runs, making necessary adjustments to color, registration, and ink density to meet high standards.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on presses, including cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and operational issues that may arise during the printing process.
- Ensure accurate color matching and consistency across all print materials.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Accurately record production data, including job times, materials used, and waste.
- Collaborate effectively with prepress, finishing, and other production team members.
- Conduct quality checks on raw materials and finished products.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience operating offset printing presses.
- Demonstrable knowledge of offset printing processes, mechanics, and terminology.
- Proficiency in color matching and quality control techniques.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret job specifications, blueprints, and production schedules.
- Excellent attention to detail and precision.
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects, and work in a production environment.
- Basic computer literacy for job tracking and data entry.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical certification or diploma in printing technology or a related field.
- Experience with specific press models (e.g., Heidelberg Speedmaster, Komori Lithrone).
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of digital printing processes is a plus.
- Experience with routine maintenance and calibration of printing equipment.
