Job Description
We are seeking a meticulous and experienced Project Estimator to join our dynamic team in Montpelier, Bristol. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for various construction projects, from initial concept through to final tender submission.
- Analyze project specifications, architectural drawings, and other documentation to fully understand the scope of work and potential risks.
- Liaise with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather necessary information, quotes, and technical specifications.
- Conduct detailed quantity take-offs and apply appropriate unit rates and pricing strategies.
- Identify and evaluate potential cost-saving opportunities and value engineering solutions.
- Develop and present clear, concise, and comprehensive tender documentation and reports to senior management.
- Participate in tender review meetings and assist in the negotiation of contract terms.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of market conditions, material costs, and labor rates within the construction industry.
- Utilize estimating software and tools efficiently to enhance accuracy and productivity.
- Support the project team during the construction phase with cost analysis and variations.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Project Estimator within the construction industry.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and regulations.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Candy, Causeway, Bluebeam) and MS Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to read and interpret complex construction drawings and specifications.
- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- A degree or HND in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Membership in a professional body such as RICS or CIOB.
- Experience with various procurement routes and contract types.
- Familiarity with local supply chains and subcontractor networks in the Bristol region.
