Job Description
Coastal Manufacturing, Inc. is seeking a meticulous and highly skilled Technical Writer to join our dynamic engineering and product development team in Lighthouse Lakes, Selbyville. In this critical documentation role, you will be instrumental in translating complex technical information about our specialized shellfish processing equipment and systems into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation. Your work will directly support our customers, field service technicians, and internal teams by providing accurate, comprehensive guides that facilitate seamless installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of our innovative machinery. As a Technical Writer, you will delve deep into product specifications, engineering designs, and operational procedures, collaborating closely with mechanical engineers, software developers (if applicable), product managers, and subject matter experts. You will be responsible for creating a wide array of technical documents, including detailed user manuals, comprehensive installation guides, precise troubleshooting procedures, essential safety documentation, training materials, release notes, and internal process guides. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, write, and maintain high-quality technical documentation, including user manuals, installation guides, service manuals, and release notes for shellfish processing equipment.
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and subject matter experts to gather technical information and ensure accuracy and completeness of content.
- Translate complex technical specifications and concepts into clear, concise, and engaging language understandable to a variety of audiences.
- Create and update technical illustrations, diagrams, and other visual aids to complement written content.
- Manage the documentation lifecycle from planning and development to review, publication, and maintenance.
- Ensure all documentation adheres to company style guides, brand standards, and industry best practices.
- Actively participate in product development meetings to stay informed of product changes and documentation requirements.
- Review and edit documentation for grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, and consistency.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of documentation processes and tools.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Technical Writer in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency with technical authoring tools (e.g., Microsoft Word, Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, Paligo) and graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Snagit).
- Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and present them in an easy-to-understand manner.
- Experience with content management systems (CMS) and version control.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously.
- A portfolio of professional technical writing samples demonstrating clarity and conciseness.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, Journalism, Engineering, or a related field.
- Familiarity with DITA (Darwin Information Typing Architecture) or other structured authoring methodologies.
- Experience documenting industrial machinery, ideally in food processing or similar sectors.
- Basic understanding of mechanical or electrical engineering principles.
- Experience creating instructional videos or other multimedia content for technical training.
