Key Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly prepare surfaces for painting by scraping, sanding, filling, priming, or sealing as required.
  • Repair cracks, holes, and other surface imperfections with appropriate materials such as plaster, putty, or caulk.
  • Accurately mix, match, and apply paints, varnishes, stains, and other finishes using a variety of tools including brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
  • Ensure a smooth, even, and consistent application of all coatings, achieving high-quality finishes.
  • Clean, maintain, and properly store all painting tools and equipment, ensuring their longevity and optimal function.
  • Protect adjacent surfaces, flooring, and furniture from paint splatter, dust, and damage.
  • Safely erect, inspect, and dismantle scaffolding, ladders, and other access equipment.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and company policies on all job sites.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with clients, project managers, other tradespeople, and team members.
  • Inspect completed work for quality, identifying and addressing any touch-ups or imperfections.
  • Accurately estimate material and time requirements for painting projects and manage resources efficiently.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Painter in construction or building maintenance environments (minimum 3 years).
  • Excellent knowledge of painting materials, their properties, and best application methods.
  • Solid experience in preparing various surfaces (e.g., wood, drywall, plaster, metal, concrete).
  • Proficiency in using a wide range of painting tools and equipment (brushes, rollers, sprayers, sanders, caulking guns).
  • Strong attention to detail, precision, and a keen eye for colour matching and aesthetics.
  • Ability to work efficiently both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Good physical condition, manual dexterity, and the ability to work at heights.
  • Thorough understanding of relevant health and safety procedures and regulations.
  • Valid UK Driving License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification in Painting and Decorating.
  • Possession of a valid CSCS Card.
  • Experience with specialist finishes, decorative techniques, or wallpapering.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Proven experience working on both residential and commercial projects of varying scales.
