Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Stock Controller to join our busy operations team in Portishead, Bristol. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the accurate recording, efficient storage, and timely dispatch of a wide variety of products moving through our port facilities. You will be at the heart of our inventory management system, responsible for maintaining precise stock levels, conducting regular audits, and utilizing our Warehouse Management System (WMS) to track goods from arrival to departure. Your day-to-day will involve hands-on interaction with incoming and outgoing freight, validating documentation, identifying discrepancies, and working closely with warehouse staff, logistics coordinators, and external hauliers to ensure seamless operations. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain accurate inventory records using the Warehouse Management System (WMS).
  • Oversee the receipt of incoming goods, verifying quantities, quality, and documentation against purchase orders.
  • Organize and optimize storage locations for various products, ensuring efficient space utilization and accessibility.
  • Prepare and coordinate the dispatch of outgoing goods, ensuring correct products are picked, packed, and loaded according to dispatch orders and shipping schedules.
  • Conduct regular physical stock counts and reconcile discrepancies, investigating root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Generate and analyse stock reports, identifying trends, potential issues, and recommending improvements.
  • Liaise effectively with warehouse operatives, transport providers, and other internal departments to ensure smooth operations.
  • Ensure all stock movements adhere to company policies, health and safety regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Process returns, damaged goods, and quarantine items in accordance with established procedures.
  • Operate material handling equipment (e.g., forklift) as required, ensuring safe operation and adherence to training.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Stock Controller, Inventory Clerk, or similar role.
  • Proficiency in using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and inventory software.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, physically demanding warehouse/port environment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Understanding of supply chain processes and logistics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Forklift truck license (Counterbalance, Reach, or other relevant categories).
  • Experience working within a port, logistics, or manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of import/export procedures and documentation.
  • Relevant certifications in inventory management or supply chain logistics.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations in a warehouse setting.
