Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, verify, and submit accurate import and export declarations to HMRC and other relevant authorities.
- Classify goods using appropriate commodity codes (HS codes) and ensure compliance with tariff regulations.
- Calculate and verify duties, taxes, and other charges for customs entries.
- Review and validate all required documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and certificates of origin.
- Liaise with clients, customs officials, and internal departments to resolve any queries, discrepancies, or issues related to customs clearance.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in customs legislation, trade agreements, and import/export procedures.
- Process and manage customs special procedures (e.g., Inward Processing, Outward Processing, Customs Warehousing) where applicable.
- Ensure all records are accurately maintained for audit purposes and compliance reporting.
- Assist in providing customs advice and guidance to clients and colleagues as required.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of experience in customs declarations, import/export procedures, or freight forwarding.
- Comprehensive understanding of HMRC customs regulations, commodity codes, and tariff classifications.
- Proficiency in customs software and systems (e.g., CHIEF/CDS).
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
